In the annals of Canadian basketball, Denham Brown holds a special place. The former University of Connecticut standout, who was drafted by the NBA’s Seattle Supersonics and has played all over the world professionally, owns the record for the highest single-game scoring output at a Canadian high school — as a senior at West Hill Collegiate Institute in Toronto in 2001, he dropped 111 points in one game.

And until Dec. 16 of this year, Brown was the only Canadian high schooler to crack triple digits in a game. Now he has company.

Ahmed Ali, a senior point guard at John Polyani Collegiate Institute in Toronto, scored 103 points in one game, hitting 23 three-pointers and pouring in all but eight of his team’s points in a 111-76 victory over C.W. Jefferys this past Wednesday.

Ali is no one-game wonder. Before his 103-point outburst, Ali was averaging 26 points per game this season. In a matchup with Athlete Institute Basketball Academy, a team featuring 7-foot-1 teen phenom Thon Maker (who is being recruited by the likes of Kentucky, Indiana, UNLV and Florida State), Ali scored 35 points.

According to North Pole Hoops, Ali is one of the 50 best players in Canada in the high school Class of 2016.

Ali’s list of potential college destinations is headlined by a handful of prominent junior colleges. But after gaining attention on both sides of the US-Canada border with Wednesday’s historic performance, he could capture the attention of even more prestigious programs.
